Custom Spring Design
The minimum information required for a spring design is size and force. If you can state a free length, diameter, and how many pounds force are required at a given length, we can then provide various design options that will work.
Here are a few considerations to evaluate that can help keep the price down.
1. Excessive specifications reduce run rates and increase production time. Don't over specify the requirements.
2. Grinding the ends of springs adds an operation. Specify Flatness and Perpendicularity callouts where the application demands.
3. Costs vary greatly for different materials. Music Wire and Stainless Steel are the most common materials used for springs. For small springs, the material cost has little impact on the price. When corrosion protection is essential, an evaluation between using Stainless Steel and having parts plated would be prudent.
